MALS runs periodic training events or workshops for activists and community groups throughout the year.
Spaces for our events are strictly limited and in high demand, so bookings are essential. Please RSVP respectfully. Thank you!
This workshop will help activist organisers to understand the bigger picture on why activist legal support is important as part of your overall campaign or action strategy. How can the legal system help you reach your goals? What does a good legal support team do? How do you work with lawyers and support arrestees and activists facing court. What should be considered before, during and after an action?
These practical events provide a technical support forum for conversations around Open Source tools and strategies to help protect activists and activist groups from increasingly intrusive digital surveillance by police. How do I encrypt my e-mail? Why is Facebook harmful for organising? How do the police use surveillance as a tool of repression and intimidation? How can we push back? Bring your devices, for hands-on practical experiences. Related topics can sometimes include security culture in general, encrypted communications techniques, data awareness online and offline, privacy as a concept but also as a legal right, and specific anti-surveillance communication techniques and tools.
These informational events aim to empower activists with knowledge and confidence to make decisions about how they will engage with the legal system in their activism, and better understand the legal context of their protest actions. Attendees will learn about their legal rights, and practice asserting and protecting these rights in the context of interacting with police. Workshops are usually tailored to address the particular needs of attendees, and are interactive and dynamic.
These practical workshops teach fundamental Legal Observing skills. Legal Observers play a crucial role monitoring and reporting on police behaviour at protest events, and protecting and asserting civil and political rights. Learn about police tactics and human rights obligations, what to look out for at protest events, and how to best record evidence of police misconduct.
There are no upcoming events at the moment, but you can join our mailing-list to be notified when new events are organised.
